Important Information for 2026-27

  • Global Exchange Program applications are open in TritonsAbroad
  • Check the nomination and application deadlines to ensure your application is submitted on time. 
  • Please note that Global Exchange Programs have two applications: one for UC San Diego (TritonsAbroad) and the other for the partner university. After applying in Tritons Abroad, UC San Diego will review and approve your nomination and you will be provided instructions for submitting a second application to the partner university.

Eligibility and Program Dates

Exchange Details:
  • Academic Level: Undergraduate (at least sophomore level)
  • Eligible Major(s): All majors- STEM majors are strongly encouraged to apply. 
  • Minimum GPA: 3.3
Academic Calendar:
  • Semester 1: mid-August to early December
  • Semester 2: mid-January to early May
NTU organizes welcome weeks in the week prior to the start of each semester. Therefore, students should plan on arriving in early August or early January depending on the start date of the program. 

Course Information

  • Full Time Enrollment:  A typical course load is three to five courses per semester, with each course being usually three or 4 Academic Units (AU). Students must maintain enrollment in at least one course throughout the program and can enrol in a maximum of 20 AUs per semester. Please note a pass/fail option is not available to exchange students. 
  • Selecting Courses: Review NTU's Coursework Resource page with instructions and resources on how to find courses. For detailed information regarding each course, use the Content of Courses searchable catalog.
  • Language of Instruction: All courses, except language courses, are conducted in English. 
  • Restricted Courses: Due to capacity constraints, courses offered by NTU’s College of Computing and Data Science (CCDS) are temporarily unavailable to exchange students until further notice. Depending on your academic
    requirements, suitable alternatives may be found among the offerings of NTU’s other five Engineering Schools. Below are additional restrictions:
    • All courses from our five autonomous institutions:
      • National Institute of Education (Only NIE general electives are available for exchange students)
      • S Rajaratnam School of International Studies
      • Earth Observatory of Singapore
      • Singapore Centre on Environmental Life Sciences Engineering
      • Lee Kong Chian School of Medicine
      • All courses offered by College of Computing and Data Science (CCDS)
      • Entrepreneurship courses offered by the Nanyang Technopreneurship Center (NTUPreneur)
      • Graduate Programs offered by the Nanyang Business School (NBS)
      • Course offered during Special Terms
      • Any course listed in the Restricted Undergraduate Course list

Housing and Dining

Campus housing is subject to availability and allocated by computer ballot. Additionally, on-campus housing not available to students who are only doing research placements.  Once accepted into the program, students will be provided instructions on how to apply for campus housing via the the study abroad portal after accepting their exchange program offer. Students do not apply directly with the office of campus housing. On-campus housing (a bed in a shared twin room) will cost approximately S$380-520/ month. To increase the likelihood of receiving on-campus housing, students should complete the application as soon as they receive it and before the deadline for their semester start date. For Semester 1, the housing application deadline is usually late May. For Semester two, the housing application deadline is in November.
 
There are also off-campus options in the nearby areas of Boon Lay, Jurong West and Jurong East.

Financial Aid and Scholarships

Immigration and Visas

Although students needing a visa to enter Singapore do not need to apply separately for a visa, students will need to apply for a Student's Pass. Once the Student’s Pass (STP) is approved, the In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter issued will include a single-entry visa for entry to Singapore.  To obtain the STP, application guidance will be provided after the student accepts the offer of the exchange period. Travel should only be arranged after your STP is approved.

Health and Wellness

Enrollment in NTU’s student insurance schemes (comprising Group Personal Accident Insurance, Group Hospitalization & Surgical Insurance, and Medical Scheme) is included in the fees payable by exchange students. Coverage under these schemes is mandatory, regardless of any existing insurance you may already hold. You should also purchase comprehensive travel insurance for your trip to and from Singapore and any travel during the semester. 

Student Life

  • Welcome Week and GEM Buddies Program: In addition to organizing Welcome Weeks prior to the start of each semester, NTU offers multiple opportunities for exchange students to engage with peers and immerse themselves in campus life. This includes the GEM Club, NTU’s student-led exchange community and the the GEM Buddies Program. Through this program you will be paired with a friendly NTU student who can help you navigate campus life, answer questions, and ease your transition into university life.
