Engineering students can study abroad at one of Europe's premier universities, Spain's Universidad Pública de Navarra (UPNA)! UPNA is located in the heart of Basque country with easy travel opportunities to Madrid, Bilbao, France and the picturesque coastline of northern Spain. UPNA is a university both deeply rooted in history and at the forefront of sustainability and advanced science and technology.  

Students can advance their degree, improve their Spanish and experience some of the region's rich and vibrant cultural activities such as the San Fermin festival and the running of the bulls in Pamplona!

Important Information for 2024-25

Basic Information

Exchange Details:

  • Academic Level: Undergraduate (Third and Fourth Year)
  • Eligible Major(s): Engineering

Academic Calendar:

  • Fall Semester: September to January
  • Spring Semester: January to June

Students should arrive about one week before the start of each semester. More information and dates can be found on the academic calendar. 

Course Information

  • Full Time Enrollment: 30 ECTS is considered a full-time course for a semester. credits and course information can be found in the course catalog. 
  • Language of Instruction: Spanish and English, with some courses in Basque and French.
  • Courses in Spanish: Exchange students can take Spanish language courses through UPNA's Language Center. Courses are offered during the academic year and there is also a free intensive Spanish language course that is offered a week before the start of each semester. If students wish to study a course in Spanish, they should possess at least B1-level proficiency in Spanish.  

Housing and Dining

UPNA manages an online housing portal through which exchange students can find a range of accommodation, from rooms to rent to entire residences. Students are responsible for their own housing.

Estimated Cost of Living:

  • Accommodation: 250-450 Euros/ month
  • Food: 200-250 Euros/ month
  • Public Transport: 25 Euros/ month

Immigration and Visas

U.S. citizens must obtain a student visa to study in Spain. For other citizenships, visit the website of the Spanish Embassy or Consulate in your country of citizenship for visa requirements and processes.
